Our Story

Open Horizons was born from a recognition that youth in rural communities like Garberville and Southern Humboldt County face unique challenges—limited access to enrichment programs, fewer mentorship opportunities, and geographic isolation from urban resources.

Founded in 2024 by Stephanie Hancock and a team of dedicated community members, our organization was created to bridge these gaps and provide the support systems that all young people deserve.

We believe that every child, regardless of where they live, should have access to safe spaces, caring mentors, and opportunities to discover their potential. Our programs are designed specifically with rural youth in mind, addressing both their immediate needs and their long-term aspirations.

"We don't just see youth as they are—we see who they can become. Our role is to provide the support, resources, and encouragement they need to reach their full potential."
